MAX7219 8×8 LED Dot Matrix Module

The MAX7219 8×8 LED Dot Matrix Module uses Maxim’s MAX7219 LED driver chip to control all 64 LEDs in its grid using just 3 control signals from a microcontroller, rather than the 64 individual pins it would otherwise take to address each LED directly.

MAX7219 – How It Works

The chip internally multiplexes the 8×8 grid, scanning through rows and columns fast enough that all 64 LEDs appear continuously lit to the human eye despite only a fraction actually being powered at any given instant, and it handles this refresh entirely in hardware so the host microcontroller just sends which LEDs should be on. Because the SPI-based DIN/CS/CLK interface passes a DOUT pin through to the next module in a chain, multiple MAX7219 boards can be daisy-chained together to build a wider display — a scrolling text sign, for example — using the same 3 control pins regardless of how many modules are connected. Adjustable brightness and a low-power shutdown mode round out the chip’s built-in features, both controllable from software without extra hardware.

Specifications are sourced from Components101’s MAX7219 8×8 LED matrix reference. Because widely-used libraries like MD_MAX72XX or LedControl already handle the low-level SPI commands, most projects don’t need to talk to the chip’s raw register set directly at all, even for scrolling text effects.

Because current draw scales with how many LEDs are lit at once, a display showing mostly bright text or animation draws noticeably more power than one showing a sparse, mostly-dark pattern.

الشريحة داخليًا بتعمل multiplex للشبكة 8×8، بتفحص الصفوف والأعمدة بسرعة كفاية إن كل الـ64 LED تبان مضيئة باستمرار للعين البشرية رغم إن جزء بس فعليًا بيتغذى في أي لحظة، وبتتولى التحديث ده بالكامل بالهاردوير فالمتحكم المضيف بس بيبعت إيه اللي المفروض يضيء. وبما إن واجهة SPI المبنية على DIN/CS/CLK بتمرر بن DOUT للموديول الجاي في سلسلة، كذا بورد MAX7219 يقدروا يتسلسلوا مع بعض لبناء شاشة أوسع — لافتة نص متحرك مثلًا — باستخدام نفس الـ3 بنات تحكم بغض النظر عن عدد الموديولات الموصلة. سطوع قابل للضبط ووضع سكون منخفض الطاقة بيكملوا مميزات الشريحة المدمجة، الاتنين قابلين للتحكم بالبرمجيات من غير هاردوير إضافي.
