This is a latching push button switch (B165L), a panel-mount button that stays in the pressed (ON) position until pressed again, functioning as a mechanical toggle.

Unlike a momentary tact button that springs back the instant it’s released, this latching mechanism mechanically locks the button in its pressed position after the first press, holding the circuit closed continuously — a second press releases the internal latch and the button pops back out to its OFF position, making it function like an on/off toggle rather than a press-and-hold control.

Never substitute a momentary button where a latching one is required (or vice versa) without redesigning the surrounding circuit — the two types produce fundamentally different electrical behavior even though they may look similar externally.
