Analog pH Meter Sensor

The Analog PH Meter Sensor pairs a standard glass pH electrode, connected via a BNC connector, with a small signal-conditioning board that amplifies the electrode’s tiny millivolt-level signal into a usable analog voltage for a microcontroller’s ADC.

pH Meter Sensor – How It Works

The glass electrode generates a voltage proportional to the hydrogen-ion activity in the solution it’s dipped into, following the same basic electrochemical principle used in laboratory pH meters, just without the more expensive calibration and temperature-compensation electronics. The board converts that raw electrode voltage into a 0-14 pH-scaled analog output, rated for roughly ±0.1 pH accuracy at 25°C, with response settling within about a minute of dipping the probe. Because pH electrodes drift over time and with use, periodic calibration against known pH 4, 7, and 10 buffer solutions is necessary for readings to stay trustworthy.

Because glass electrodes are fragile and degrade if left dry for extended periods, store the probe tip in pH storage solution or a wet cap between uses rather than leaving it exposed to open air for long periods.

Because temperature affects the electrode’s output slightly, taking readings at a roughly consistent, similar temperature each time improves comparability between separate measurements taken well over time across many different testing sessions.
