The Load Cell 5kg Weight Sensor is a metal beam with strain gauges bonded to it in a Wheatstone bridge configuration, so it doesn’t output a usable signal on its own — it needs a dedicated amplifier chip like the HX711 to turn its microvolt-level bridge imbalance into a readable digital value.

Load Cell 5kg – How It Works

As weight bends the beam by a tiny, precise amount, the strain gauges change resistance proportionally, unbalancing the bridge circuit and producing a small differential voltage that scales with load, up to its rated 5kg capacity. Because that signal is only millivolts at full scale, connecting it directly to a microcontroller’s analog pin won’t work — it needs the HX711 or a similar precision ADC in between. The four color-coded wires (typically red, black, white, green) follow a standard Wheatstone bridge wiring convention shared across most low-cost load cells of this style.

Mounting the beam securely at both ends, exactly as the manufacturer intends, matters more than it might seem, since an improperly supported load cell reads inconsistently even when the exact same weight is placed on it twice in a row.
