TP4056 Type-C Charger Module

The TP4056 Type C charger module updates the classic TP4056 charging board with a modern USB-C input instead of Micro USB, while keeping the same TP4056 charge-controller chip and DW01A protection IC that made the original board a staple for 18650 and other 3.7V lithium cells.

TP4056 Type-C – How It Works

It charges at a default 1A rate (adjustable via an external resistor) using constant-current then constant-voltage charging, terminating at 4.2V ±1%. The DW01A protection circuit adds overcharge detection at 4.3V, over-discharge cutoff at 2.4V, and short-circuit/overcurrent protection above roughly 3A, which is why these modules are described as chargers “with protection” rather than bare charging ICs. A red LED indicates active charging and switches to green once the battery reaches full charge, giving a simple visual status without needing a microcontroller to monitor it.

Because this module only charges a single cell, multi-cell packs need one TP4056 module per cell (with a separate balancing circuit) rather than one module wired across the whole pack, since it has no concept of balancing multiple series cells together.

Because the board is so small and inexpensive, it’s common practice to keep a few spares on hand for battery-heavy projects rather than treating any single small module as irreplaceable, precious, or genuinely difficult to source again later.
