The 1K ohm 0.5W resistor is a fixed axial-lead resistor rated at half a watt, the round-number staple of the E-series, now in a package built for more power handling than the standard 0.25W series.

How It Works

At 1,000Ω, this resistor limits current or drops voltage per Ohm’s law, and its 0.5W rating gives it double the power-dissipation headroom of the quarter-watt series at the most commonly stocked resistance value in electronics. With a standard ±5% tolerance, its actual resistance falls between 950Ω and 1,050Ω, in a slightly larger axial package.
